Roberto Rodriguez Diaz

Blue Economy Coordinator
European INTEC Foundation

Roberto Rodriguez Diaz is a seafood industry executive with over 30 years of operational and strategic experience across the full value chain – from fishing fleet and aquaculture management to international sourcing, logistics, and regulatory compliance.

Born into a Galician fishing family, the sea is not just a metaphor for Roberto. It is the context in which he was raised and the industry to which he has dedicated his professional life. From 1995 to 2022, he held senior executive roles at Pescanova Group, one of Europe’s largest vertically integrated seafood companies. That experience gave him an unfiltered understanding of what global supply chains look like from the inside — their complexity, their vulnerabilities, and the real cost of opacity.

Over the last few years, he has served as Blue Economy Coordinator at the European INTEC Foundation, and as Senior Advisor to Seafood Souq (UAE) and Code Contract (Spain), two companies at the forefront of digital traceability and blockchain-based documentation for seafood trade. Currently, he is focused on the practical implementation of the EU CATCH regulation – helping operators transition from paper-based catch certificates to fully auditable digital systems. His approach to this topic is not a compliance exercise, but as a structural reform with direct commercial consequences. Roberto believes that digital traceability done right is a competitive advantage but done poorly, is a liability.

Roberto’s commitment is simple: to make the European seafood market more transparent, more efficient, and more defensible — for operators, for regulators, and for the resource itself.
